Production in Fife Tay
In 2023/24 production in the Fife Tay region was resilient in an environment where the screen industry was impacted by strikes by actors and writers and other challenges. The sector delivered regional economic impact of around £4.6m. Our iconic, unique and diverse locations play a big role in attracting production. Media production brings spending on locations and services, promotes the region, attracts tourism and boosts the regional economy. But none of it would be possible without the fabulous, film friendly reception ready to greet production by location owners and services from accommodation to technical.
To highlight opportunities and share ideas, Screen Ready is presented by regional screen office, FifeScreen+TayScreen in collaboration with our partners, the Councils of Dundee City, Fife and Perth & Kinross, and Visit Scotland.

What does production mean for you?
Productions bring crews ranging from just a few people up to several hundred. They all need services like accommodation, transport and catering. Depending on the subject, they may also need input such as experts and culture, leisure or other experiences. The wider impact is worth at least double the spending. At Screen Ready you can find out about the productions shot on location in Fife Tay, what’s involved in attracting and hosting production and how to make the most of opportunities after the cameras stop rolling.
Screen Tourism
Visit Scotland reports that screen tourism (or set-jetting) is set to continue as highlighted by travel experts, Expedia and Skyscanner. According to Expedia, more than half of travellers say that TV shows and movies inspire their travel plans. It also showed nearly 30% say they are more influential than ever before – with TV shows providing a bigger draw for destinations than Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. Visit Scotland and location offices are also keenly aware of the growing challenges that can be faced by destinations that become popular with tourists eager to find out more about the making of their favourite shows.
