Starring in the movie is James Norton known for hit TV series McMafia and Grantchester and movies like Flatliners and Hampstead. Supporting cast includes Peter Sarsgaard, Joseph Mawle and Vanessa Kirby who played Princess Margaret in yet another hit TV series The Crown.

The story is based on the life of Welsh born journalist Gareth Jones who achieved so much in a life of only 30 years. Having covered the rise of the Nazi party in Germany, he was the first journalist to draw the attention of the West to Soviet famine of the early 1930’s. Banned from the Soviet Union, he moved on to China. Finally it was claimed that he was shot by bandits but the suspicion was raised that his death may have been engineered by the Soviet Union’s intelligence services.

Film locations were chosen all across the picturesque East Neuk of Fife. It started with a hunt for a period cottage overlooking water to be used as Gareth Jones’ home. Fife offers historic and iconic villages and harbours and Pittenweem and Cellardyke took starring roles. Cellardyke offered an additional harbour location to Pittenweem which is a working port.
