Get closer to Karen
DCA spoke to filmmaker Karen Guthrie about the process of making her very personal film, The Closer We Get, ahead of her visit for a one-off screening and Q&A on Sat 17 October.
Shot over 80 days from 2011 to 2014 in locations across Scotland and beyond, The Closer We Get is a powerful and bittersweet documentary that paints a portrait of Karen’s family in turmoil after she returns home to say a long goodbye to her mother, who has suffered a devastating stroke. The subject matter may seem dark and difficult, but Karen's film shares a fascinating, honest and very real story of a family surviving with candour, warmth and much unexpected humour.
